Procrastinators of the world, wait! From the Hip Hop Play about a biracial student stuck in detention after a schoolwide race riot. If you like me, you'll love this one.

lyrics

Procrastinators of the world/ Wait!/
Procrastinators of the world/ Wait!/
Procrastinators of the world/ Wait!/
You got a couple minutes dog/ You won’t be late/

But uh/ Tick tock/ Keep tickin’/
Time keeps slippin/ What am I missin’?/
Money/ Power/ Respect/ And fame/
But does it mean a Goddamned thing?/

They say that time heals pain/ And time quiets rage/
But as time ticks away/ How much of that wait is waste?/
The same people claim hate pertains only to race/
That’s about as bright as sayin’ only gays catch AIDS/
But we take what we’re fed without questionin’ the bread/
Assumin’ we’ll get all the answers as soon as we’re dead/
Go head an’ wait for the reaper/ He doesn’t know either/
It’s just so much easier to be a believer than a seeker/
‘Cuz time is precious/ Look back/ How have you spent it?/
My memory bank’s filled with debt and F’d up credit/
Regrets and feuds with friends that’ve been left unsettled/
Some say that time’s a fire made to test one’s mettle/
And I get it/ The forge molds/ Forms and bends/
Burns pages of history/ Forgets foes and friends/
Nothing is immune/ Not hate/ Love/ Or innocence/
It’s exactly what they meant by “You can’t go home again.”

And uh/ Tick tock/ Keep tickin’/
Time keeps slippin/ What am I missin’?/
Money/ Power/ Respect/ And fame/
But does it mean a Goddamned thing?/

We begin on 4 legs/ Graduate to 2/
Onto 3 when you add a cane/ Then to dust and you’re through/
Oceans and ovaries both are moved by the moon/
We use it to measure the minutes/ But what does that prove?/
Some say when God’s in a petulant mood/ He’ll bring our doom/
He made the world in 6 days/ On Sunday/ Got up at noon/
And Hell is hot/ That’s why we pray/ Because today we stay cool/
If that’s true/ What should I do/ Until the day I’m consumed?/
The radio says I’m confused/ “Get paper, worry later”/
He wouldn’t kill the game of a player/ He isn’t a hater/
Others play it safer/ Stay acres away from neighbors/
Or become mayors/ skaters/ debaters/ Or imitators/
While speculators/ taste the flavor of nature/
Dictators face razors of liberators and traitors/
And innovators get greater/ Upgrade to creators/
The worst of all watch it go by: Spectators/

And uh/ Tick tock/ Keep tickin’/
Time keeps slippin/ What am I missin’?/
Money/ Power/ Respect/ And fame/
But does it mean a Goddamned thing?/

So if I sit on my ass and watch it all pass/
Do I have the right to ask why my life is crap?/
If I don’t make a big splash and rise above middle class/
Was it worth it to be born the spittin’ image of dad?/
Or can my contribution be small?/ Do I have to contribute at all?/
Is life about choice or am I just a pinball?/
And my momentum of moments bounce around without purpose/
Worthless to be a person/ Cursed ‘cuz I’ve earned it/
Workin’ for change/ Change what I touch/ And who I love/
But it isn’t enough/ Eventually all this stuff rusts/
Why should I live life at full speed and keep up the run/
When it can all end with a gun or the explosion of the sun?/
There was no crowd when I shadowboxed with doubt/
Crowds create clout/ Thoughts create clouds/
How many brainstorms will it take to make it all come about?
I don’t know now/ But I better figure it out/

‘Cuz uh/ Tick tock/ Keep tickin’/
Time keeps slippin/ What am I missin’?/
Money/ Power/ Respect/ And fame/
But does it mean a Goddamned thing?/

And uh/ Tick tock/ Keep tickin’/
Time keeps slippin/ What am I missin’?/
Money/ Power/ Respect/ And fame/
It doesn’t mean a Goddamned thing/

Procrastinators of the world/ Wait!/
Procrastinators of the world/ Wait!/
Procrastinators of the world/ Wait!/
If you don’t make the date dog/ You can be replaced
